How to choose an influencer marketing agency in India

Picking the wrong agency wastes your budget. Use this checklist to compare agencies before you pay anyone.

By FAME HUNGER · Updated 17 Oct 2026

An influencer marketing agency finds the right creators for your brand, agrees their rates, briefs them, checks their content, pays them and reports the results. A good agency saves you weeks of work. A bad one sends your money to creators whose audience never buys from you. Here is what to check.

1. Ask for real work you can open

Any agency can show a nice slide. Ask for case studies with brand names and links to the actual posts or videos, so you can see the views, comments and the content yourself. If an agency can't show live links, be careful.

2. Ask how they choose creators

Followers alone mean very little. A good agency looks at:

  • Niche fit: does the creator talk about things your customers care about?
  • Audience: the city, language and age of the creator's followers, not just the creator's own city.
  • Real engagement: real comments and conversations, not just a big follower number.
  • Past brand work: how the creator's earlier sponsored posts performed and looked.

Ask to see a shortlist with numbers (reach, engagement and price for each creator) before you commit.

3. Check that followers are real

Fake followers are common. Warning signs include sudden jumps in followers, very few comments compared with the follower count, and comments that are only emojis or the same few words. A good agency checks this for you and can explain why each creator is on your shortlist.

4. You should approve the content first

Creators should send their script or draft before anything goes live. You check the message, the product details and the brand fit. Avoid any setup where content goes live without your OK.

5. Contracts and usage rights

There should be a written agreement with every creator: what they will post, when, and for how long it stays up. If you want to reuse the content in your own ads, the usage rights must be agreed before the content is made.

6. Clear pricing and one bill

Ask exactly what the price includes: creator fees, the agency's fee and taxes. Find out who pays the creators and whether you get a proper GST invoice. Clear pricing up front prevents surprises later.

7. A report you can understand

At the end you should get every post link with its views, likes, comments and shares, plus clicks or sales if you used tracking links or promo codes. A good report helps you decide what to do next time.

8. Speed and one point of contact

Ask how long it takes from brief to live posts, and who you will talk to. One person who answers quickly makes the whole campaign easier.

Red flags

  • They promise your post will "go viral" or guarantee sales.
  • They won't show a creator shortlist with numbers before you pay.
  • No written agreements with creators.
  • They can't show live links to past campaigns.
  • Prices change after you have agreed, or the bill has hidden extras.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Can you show me 2–3 past campaigns with live links?
  • How do you check that a creator's followers are real?
  • Will I see each creator's reach, engagement and price before I choose?
  • Can I approve every script and draft?
  • What exactly is included in the price, and will I get a GST invoice?
  • What will the final report show?

Do I really need an influencer marketing agency?

Not always. If you run a few posts a year, you can contact creators yourself. An agency helps when you want many creators, faster timelines, checked audiences, contracts and one clear report.

How much budget do I need?

It depends on the creators, platforms and number of posts. Share your budget, small or big, and a good agency will suggest the best plan for it.

How long does an influencer campaign take?

With a clear brief, many campaigns go from brief to live posts in one to two weeks. At FAME HUNGER most campaigns take about 10 days.
